Ever been to YouTube only to find those annoying YouTube videos that pops up on your screen whenever you are watching a video? What do you do after seeing that? You click the exit/close button i guess? :) Now the bad news is, starting from Next month, YouTube would forcefully show you a 6 secs ad videos whenever you try watching a video on the platform. So this means, you either watch or leave . :(
According to a report as published by YouTube Product Manager Zach Lupei, the new ad video would be filling a gap since most of internet users now make use of Mobile phones to access the internet which means, just little % of PC users see the ads. Below is a report as gotten from the Official Adwords Blog.
It is owed to “a recent research, which showed that half of 18-49 year olds turn to their mobile device first to watch video. Even in the living room, many people prefer to watch on their smartphone – for the control, personalization and ease it offers. And as viewing habits change, we are working to introduce new formats adapted to these habits. That’s why today we’re announcing Bumper ads – a new six-second video format, sold through the AdWord auction on a CPM basis. Bumper ads are ideal for driving incremental reach and frequency, especially on mobile, where “snackable videos” perform well.”
The New feature is said to take effect starting from May, 2016. Though i am not feeling the thrill on regards forcing users to see ads, i still think, it can be overlooked since that is one major way they use in making Money from the platform.
And finally, Users can also subscribe out from the 6 secs ad feature by paying a subscription fee of $10 for the YouTube Red Subscription.
What do you think about this? YouTube Forcing users to see ads, Great or Nay?
