If you’re in the market for a new iPhone, you’re looking at making a pretty hefty investment. With new models running up to hundreds of pounds, you could be spending a fair amount of money on your phone.
In today’s economic climate, we’re all looking to save money and make savings. So it might be worth your while looking into a few money saving options before your buy your iPhone.
From refurbished phones to new phone contracts, here are a few ways that you can get an iPhone for cheaper than the regular price…
Online
If you’re looking for a cheap iPhone ebay might be the way to go. You can bid on auction and possibly get a model for a huge discount.
Make sure that you check the seller’s history and ask some questions about the phone so that you don’t get scammed. If getting an iPhone ebay style isn’t your thing, then at least have a look around at different online stores and mobile service provider’s web pages, online sales are often much better than sales in retail stores.
Some of the online stores to look out for cheap iPhones in Nigeria includes:
- Konga
- Yudala
- Jumia
- Slot
- Callous Milner
- Dealdey
- Jiji
- OLX Nigeria and other top 9ja pay-in-Naira e-shopping malls.
Shopping from other countries? The other online stores to look out for cheap iPhones other than eBay includes:
- Aliexpress
- Amazon
- Gearbest
- New Egg
- DH Gate
- Flipkart and
- Best Buy
Buy Refurbished
Refurbished phones are phones that have been returned, tested, updated, cleaned and are now on sale again. Most mobile service providers have refurbished phones if you ask for them, and many online stores do too.
There is generally nothing wrong with these phones, and they are indistinguishable from new models, other than the fact that they’re much cheaper.
While shopping for refurbished iPhones and Samsung devices, I usually look through some trusted stores at Aliexpress.com as their packaging is usually top-notched and also comes with all important accessories.
Try Apple
Apple have a reuse and recycle programme on their web site. If you have an older iPhone sitting around at home and you want to buy a new iPhone, this could be the way to go.
You enter details about your old model onto their website, and they give you a quote. If you accept the quote, you send your old model in and they’ll send you an Apple Gift Card in return.
You can’t get cash, only a gift card, so this will only work if you’re going to purchase your new phone through any of the Apple’s official retail platform.
For Nigerians, you can key-in to similar program at slot.ng. They let you return your old devices, value them and then subtract the value from the new device you want to buy.
Break Your Contract
If you currently have a mobile service operator contract, it could be worth your while breaking it. Provider’s charge different fees for breaking a contract, so make sure that you find out how much this fee is before breaking it.
But it’s possible that the cost of breaking your contract plus the cost of getting a new iPhone on a new contract with another provider will be cheaper than just buying the hand set direct.
Go for an Older Model
As with everything else, older model iPhones are cheaper than the newest models. And there isn’t a great amount of difference between an iPhone 4S and an iPhone 5. Have a look around at the model prices and comparisons between different models.
You might find that an iPhone 4S is perfect for you, and that you don’t need the iPhone 5, in which case you’re going to save yourself a couple of hundred pounds.
This is the same issue with newer models such as iPhone 5S, 6 and 6+. Except for iPhone 7 that comes with a more sturdy build, premium feel and features.
