Chinese brands of android phones such as Itel, Tecno, Gionee and Infinix seems to have taken over Africa and other 3rd world countries. In Nigeria alone, it is either tecno or gionee when it comes to debate on which low-end android phone to go for.
I have witnessed countless number of dismal remarks by users of the African most populous forum (nairaland) on threads relating to reviews of one tecno smart phone or the other. This is unconnected with the frequency at which new model of tecno devices are launched with little or no difference in their specs.

So far, Tecno Phantom A1 from my point of view has been their most successful device till date, everyone seems to be satisfied with the features it was saddled with, When we reviewed the Tecno n7 device here comparing it with Gionee infinity and Infinix X450, it got the highest number of comments ‘cos users were eager to find out more about their favorite smartphones.

Gionee is looking brighter already in the Nigerian market, some of their specs brings mind-blowing features with it, this means that there could be a better future for gionee in the Chinese brands market already dominated by tecno mobility.
How can the Tablet Devices save Tecno?
The announcement of Tecno Phantom N9 Tablet came with great expectation from the millions of Nigerian youths using the Andriod smartphone, it was even hyped to the point of giving a good fight to the android tablets market already dominated by Samsung.
This didn’t turn out to be the case, many users including some of my course-mates were actually disappointed after purchasing the not-too pricy pad.
True, tecno products are cheap and affordable but may not stay at the top for so long, considering that gionee products are inexpensive too and comes with a better hardware specs than tecno.
Conclusion
Tecno is soon becoming synonymous with sub-standard hardware specs in the android smart phone world and could be easily beaten by the more reliable hardware specs from gionee their counterpart.
Most Nigerian youths are responding to this change by hiding the tecno brand’s name with stickers or completely switching to a low-end Samsung galaxy pocket.
How do you see this two Chinese companies performing in the future, considering they both produce function-rich and affordable devices, who do you think will retain most of their fans come 2014?
